What a pilgrim credential gets you
With a valid pilgrim credential a bed costs €29.00 per night. The pilgrim breakfast is €10.00, served in Kibbel’s Kitchen from 6:30 to 10:00 on weekdays and from 7:00 to 11:00 at weekends.
The credential is the condition for that rate, and there are no seasonal restrictions – it applies all year round. One thing to plan for: pilgrim beds cannot be booked online. They are arranged by phone, by email or in person at reception. Without a credential our Budget and Standard rooms start at €79.00 and €99.00 per night.
A word from the pilgrim chaplain
For those of us who love pilgrimage, the hostels are part of the way itself. It is not only about finding somewhere to sleep and rest – though that too. Pilgrim hostels are places of encounter. They make it possible to fall into conversation with other pilgrims, and that exchange, sometimes deeply personal with complete strangers, is an essential part of walking.
So it is wonderful that Hamburg finally has, in the baltica, a place that keeps beds for pilgrims at affordable rates and offers good facilities and room to meet one another alongside them.
As the “Pilgrim Centre of the North, St Jacobi Hamburg”, we wish the baltica and the people who welcome guests there God’s blessing: may this house stay in the memory of many who walk through Hamburg as a particular and hospitable place.
