You are staying in Altona-Altstadt, on the western side of the city. Ottensen, full of cafés and small shops, begins a few streets away; the Elbe and the old harbour are a short walk south; St Pauli and the Reeperbahn are one S-Bahn stop east, and the Landungsbrücken piers – where the harbour tours leave from – two. The Elbphilharmonie and the warehouse district of Speicherstadt are about fifteen minutes away by train.

Guided walks, harbour tours, museums and concerts are all easy to reach from here. One practical note: many guided walks in Hamburg are held in German only, so it is worth checking the language when you book.
