The baltica Hamburg Altona sits in the old heart of Altona, a few minutes from the harbour and four minutes on foot from the S-Bahn. What makes it unusual is what you get for the money: every room is private and has its own bathroom – there are no dormitories and no shared showers down the corridor. Rooms start at €79.00 a night.
We are also the first address in the city for people walking the Via Baltica, the northern branch of the Way of St James. Breakfast is served downstairs in Kibbel’s Kitchen, and the lobby keeps drinks and snacks available around the clock.
About the house
The baltica stands in the newly built Trinitatis quarter, in front of St Trinitatis church on Königstraße, in the historic centre of Altona. Several of our immediate neighbours are social projects that reach deep into the district – among them work that helps people who have fallen on hard times make a fresh start. We are glad to be part of that.
During construction, the old Altona destroyed in the war was rediscovered, surveyed and documented. Parts of the walls and buried buildings were built into the lobby, so that the memory of that time stays visible.
